Using Art as a language learning tool
Incorporating art into English lessons can be extremely beneficial and stimulating for the students and let´s not forget a lot of fun.
Art is a range of various creative, imaginative, and expressive activities that promotes confidence, problem-solving skills, a sense of purpose, patience, concentration, and the ability to analyze, reflect, give and receive positive feedback about one´s own work.
How do the above benefits come into play when learning English? Well, the use of art, such as making sculptures helps to engage and captivate the students; it is very visual, therefore it encourages the use of language and vocabulary learned when presenting and describing their work to others and in doing so it is also helping to build their self-esteem. It motivates students to expand their vocabulary using words that aren´t necessarily in the unit being taught, encouraging them to search for words they would like to learn and use; It provides great points of discussion among themselves, be it in group work or as a whole class discussion, especially when comparing works of art by famous artists. The students of Year 3A recreated works of art by other artists making sculptures using three different mediums, play dough, Lego, and paper.
Art is a great way to encourage students to communicate end express themselves and most definitely ties in with the language classroom.

Usando a Arte como uma ferramenta de aprendizagem de idiomas. A incorporação da arte nas aulas de inglês pode ser extremamente benéfica e estimulante para os alunos e não esqueçamos que é muito divertido.
Arte é uma gama de várias atividades criativas, imaginativas e expressivas que promovem confiança, habilidade para resolver problemas, senso de propósito, paciência, concentração e capacidade de analisar, refletir, dar e receber feedback positivo sobre o próprio trabalho.
Como os benefícios acima mencionados entram em jogo quando se aprende inglês? Bem, o uso da arte, como fazer esculturas, ajuda a envolver e cativar os alunos; é muito visual, portanto encoraja o uso da linguagem e do vocabulário aprendido ao apresentar e descrever seu trabalho aos outros e, ao fazê-lo, também ajuda a construir sua autoestima. Motiva os alunos a expandir seu vocabulário usando palavras que não estão necessariamente na unidade sendo ensinada, encorajando-os a buscar palavras que gostariam de aprender e usar; fornece grandes pontos de discussão entre eles, seja em trabalhos de grupo ou como uma discussão em turma, especialmente ao comparar obras de arte de artistas famosos. Os estudantes do Ano 3A recriaram obras de arte de outros artistas fazendo esculturas usando três meios diferentes, massinha, lego e papel.
A arte é uma ótima maneira de incentivar os alunos a se comunicarem e a se expressarem e, sem dúvida, faz tem seu lugar nas aulas de inglês.
